Be sure and pick up your seasonal guide to the Amana Colonies from the Crest Country Inn Lobby. The newspaper is entitled Willkommen: Your Free Guide to the Seven Amana Colonies, published each season. You'll find a map of the Amanas, a directory of shops, restaurants, hotels, special events - features of things going on at the local shops. Be sure to savor a 'family style' meal at one of the restaurants and visit their furniture shop for Amana made wood heirloom pieces. 
 
Heading east on Interstate 80, we are 20 minutes from Iowa city (Home of the University of Iowa Hawkeyes), and heading west we are on Interstate 80 we are 90 minutes from Des Moines, Iowa.
